Newcomers these days generally like to debut with the ubiquitous saas-bahu serials because they’re assured of instant exposure.

But this debutante has dared to be different. Meet Priyanka Misra who, veering away from the tried and tested path, has chosen a serial based on the life of Sai Baba, as her launch pad on the small screen.

She plays Manjula, a bride who moves heaven and earth to bring back her husband from the jaws of death. Born and brought up in the City of Nawabs, this young lady has done her schooling from the local Christ Church College.A

fter completing a course in Mass Communications from Lucknow University, she chose to put a full stop on her formal education to do what she has always dreamt of — acting.

“I always wanted to be an actress but my father asked me to complete my studies first and then pursue my passion. And so the day I got over with my post graduate examination, I decided to go to tinsel town and try my luck on the small screen.” This beautiful Piscean says she possesses all the qualities of the sun sign.

“I’m a typical Piscean — creative and romantic.” Quite in love with her car, she says, “I enjoy going on long drives. I often drive down to Marine Drive.” Ask her about starting her career with such an offbeat serial at a time when people only want to watch soaps full of masala, and she is quick to point out: “It is not at all like that.

Even our audience wants a change, and my serial’s TRPs are a living example of this. Our TRPs are ahead of the K series,” she claims with pride. Priyanka is very clear about her priorities. “I do want people to know me but not for the wrong reasons. I certainly don’t want negative publicity like Rakhi Sawant.

Slow and steady is what I believe in.” Talking about her upcoming projects and future plans she says, “I have two more serials coming up on air very soon on a popular channel.” Priyanka also wants to try her luck in Bollywood but “I’m not at all interested in doing C grade movies like other TV actors. Amar Upadhyay, for instance.”

She also reveals that she is a big fan of Sridevi and just loved her performance in Sadma. “Now, that’s one role I’d give anything for.”

No one can get the publicity like Rakhi did, It is possible to get the publicity like this but to maintain that is also a very tough task.
