‘I asked Rakhi to be herself and not act’
Published by Sawant Rakhi April 26th, 2007 in NewsRahul Rawail known for his action oriented films like Arjun, Dacoit and Arjun Pandit tried his hands with an action-comedy in his last film Jo Bole So Nihaal.
After a year’s gap he has already started work on his next project Buddha Mar Gaya which again happens to be a comedy but this time it’s a black comedy.
“Buddha Mar Gaya is a black comedy. The film has Paresh Rawal, Om Puri, Anupam Kher, Mukesh Tiwari and Ranvir Shorey.
There is no conventional hero and heroine in the film but there are many good actors and new people. It is going to be an out an out comedy film,” says Rawail.
And who is this Buddha who plays a dead man in this film? “Anupam Kher plays the dead man in the film. Once a person dies there is no utility left for that person.”
And what does he mean by the term black comedy? “By black comedy I mean to say that the humour will not be induced by jokes or gags.
In black comedy, situations are serious but they make you laugh. I think black comedy is a nice subject to work on.”
So with a black comedy theme and a dead man in the film, doesn’t it remind of Kundan Shah’s cult comedy film Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron.
“Well, I don’t know whether there is any similarity. You need to watch the film for that. My film is inspired by the real life incidents and all the characters are inspired by real life characters.
The script has been written by Raju Saigal and Hamill Shivkumaran. Its storyline appealed me when I read it.
I don’t know how people will react to it. I wish I knew what the audiences wanted.” There is no love story in Buddha Mar Gaya.
Interestingly, the film stars item girl Rakhi Sawant in a role of a starlet. But isn’t it surprising that Rakhi Sawant is part of the film which has no item number.
Reacting to it he says, “I haven’t kept anything that will disturb the storyline, not even any song. I saw Rakhi in Big Boss and thought there is something very frank about this girl.
I told her that I want you to be yourself and don’t want you to act. I want to show the same girl, which I saw in Big Boss and she did it.”
Finally despite all these members in the cast the absence of Rawail’s all-time favourite Sunny Deol is quite conspicuous.
“You have to cast according to characters. This story didn’t have any character for Sunny Deol,” Rawail concludes.
