A case has been registered against Bollywood actress Rakhi Sawant in Amaravati district of Maharashtra for allegedly hurting the religious sentiments of a particular community.

The case under Section 295 of IPC (injuring, with intent to insult the religion of any class) was registered with Frezarpura Police Station in the district after a group of people staged protest against the actress yesterday.

According to the protesters, Sawant was shown in a bath tub in a TV show against the background of a statue of Lord Buddha.

The protesters also burnt Sawant’s effigy and shouted slogans against her.

No further action has been taken on the matter, Frezarpura police told today.
