Rakhi, the ratings magnet

She’s done nothing these past few weeks to merit much media attention, but there’s something about item girl Rakhi Sawant that attracts television channels to her like bees to nectar.

To what else could you ascribe two full length interviews on prominent channels and an entry as a celebrity host on another prime time show, all in the space of a week? Obviously, the impetous, outspoken, yet rough-around-the-edges girl’s mannerisms and comments go a long way in getting those favoured TRPs.

So, last weekend you had Rakhi at her impulsive best on Aaj Tak’s Seedhi Baat with Prabhu Chawla chatting her up, and on Star One’s Koffee With Karan, getting grilled on frivolous rapid fire rounds by Karan Johar.

Typically, Rakhi did not waste much time on decorum. Dressed provocatively, specially so on Karan’s show, she shot her mouth off at every question.

Needless to say, there was no substance to the interviews, and their sole purpose seemed to be to cash in on the Rakhi persona, while the suave hosts let slip embarrassed, amused and at times, smug and contemptous smiles at her answers. Pertinent to note is that Johar considered her important enough to invite her on his show, the second time in less than six months.

If that much of Rakhi isn’t enough, she will be on Sahara One’s Biggest Loser as celebrity anchor on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, along with Javed Jafferi. Now that’s a smart move. The show was suffering due to its lackluster host Suniel Shetty, who imparts neither filmi glamour nor induces any energy into the proceedings.

Together, Sawant and Jaaferi should pull the show out of its self induced ennui.
