Rakhi Sawant Of Indian Journalism!

AFTER RAJDEEP Sardesai left NDTV, the ’Big Fight’ programme, he used to host, lost the sting and insight mainly due to the naivety of the new host, Vikram Chandra. It was watchable on Saturday because all the anti-Hindutva icons were present in full force there. Congress and BJP were represented too. However, the host ensured his best to cut short any BJP argument on some or the other pretext.

A uniquely dressed lady journalist, Harindra Baweja (associated with Tehelka), was clearly trying to outsmart the other panelist – Teesta Setalvad. She must be envious of her as she clearly made herself a celebrity by continuously accusing Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi. The journalist in her determination to outdo Setalvad, was so melodramatic that it was joy to watch her act.

She did not remember her parting dialogue correctly and that one sentence was disgusting. All the patriotic citizens would be ashamed that our country also has such souls working as journalists.

In defence of the terrorists, she justified their murderous act and openly declared that she too would have taken up arms if she were a Muslim. She must have won many hearts by now for whom she performed! Now, the reward will follow in equal measures.

It is not that she is young and never considered the impact of such a statement. On the contrary, she is old and knew well what she was talking about. Harindra must be counselled and provided every opportunity to amend herself otherwise every Tom, Dick and Harry would start emulating her short cut melodramatic method to gain instant stardom.

All those who will follow her act, would not be as fortunate as her and would attract suitable punishment, which in this lady’s case seems unlikely because she belongs to the journo-fraternity. It is possible that she did all these histrionics to propel her career faster and it was her deliberate ’brand building’ exercise. She was successful to some extent; and from now on she would be remembered as the Rakhi Sawant, the bold and beautiful of Indian Journalism!
