Rakhi Sawant is one determined woman. Despite not receiving an invitation to perform at a charity show being held at Birla Matoshri Mandir, Sawant went ahead and approached Oshiwara police for permission, only to be refused. The organisers Muslim Council Trust had already roped in Nandani aka Krazy Kat to perform an item number.

“We didn’t want Rakhi Sawant performing in our show, so we approached Krazy Kat to perform an item number. But Sawant tried to enter the show by asking Oshiwara police and was denied permission based on her previous record,” said Zeba Sheikh, a member of the organising team.

The show, which was held on August 26, had performances by singer Abhijeet, Babul Supriyo, comedian Johnny Lever and singer duo Sajid Wajid. The chief guest for the evening was Mumbai police commissioner A N Roy. The show was organised to help an old age home. Continue reading ‘Krazy Kat ok for cops, but not Rakhi Sawant’

The dust is slowly settling on the content-on-cable slugfest but the music video item girl has emerged from the mess, angry and licking her wounds. The past decade saw the birth of the remix music video, in which video queens like Meghna Naidu and Shefali Jariwala made their names through suggestive dances to ‘remixed’ versions of Hindi film songs.

The trend caught on quickly and made celebrities of a gallery of new faces with a one-video-CV. Now, with the court ruling that music videos, like films, need approval from the Central Board for Film Certification for cable airing, the remix industry seems to be in trouble.

Video dancer Kainaz, who has produced, directed and acted in her Yeh din to aata hai video says, “I invested Rs 25 lakh in this video and now these channels refuse to play it. It’s got an ‘A’ certificate but they won’t even show it late at night. I don’t know what to do.” Continue reading ‘Remix girls protest content-on-cable law’

Call her the Tamasha Queen. Item girl Rakhi Sawant, embroiled in yet another controversy, reacts to all the ‘rubbish’ allegations made against her.

You have landed in a controversy once again! What’s wrong with the dress in your latest album that All India Government Nurses Federation has raised objection with Information Ministry and Censor Board?

There is nothing wrong with my dress at all. I am decently dressed for songs and albums like the one I have done. Unka deemag kharab ho gaya hai (They have gone crazy). It’s not my problem. They should know that I can’t do item songs in saris. I have said several times that I am an item girl and I dress according to the song and dance I perform.

But why have you worn a nurse’s dress and that too a skimpy one?

It’s complete rubbish. It’s just a song in which I have been portrayed as a nurse and that too just for a little while. Hundreds of songs are there in which I can show you skirts smaller than what I have worn. Continue reading ‘‘People will know what Rakhi Sawant is!’’

When fame comes calling, our starlets can resist anything but being wicked. Rakhi Sawant used it perfectly as she pulled the wool over the media’s eyes with her Mika episode. Kainaaz Patel has now emerged as the ambitious descendant of the ‘wicked’ starlet breed. Here we profile some of the best known starlets, who have taken the meteoric rise merely with their ‘wicked’ streaks. Some call it sex appeal, we call them ‘wicked gals’.

Rakhi Sawant does it again!

Item girl Rakhi Sawant has done it again. After being splashed all over the media for her lip lock with Mika, she is in the limelight, all over again. This time she was asked to leave Hyderabad, by the city police.

A show featuring Sawant, among others had been organised at Vijaybhaskar Reddy indoor stadium. Apparently, the organisers did not mention Sawant’s name while asking for permission from the police officials. But as soon as the publicity featuring Sawant began, the police put its foot down.

They believed that the controversial performer should not be part of the show. They thought her performance could lead to law and order problems. Efforts to obtain permission proved to be futile and Rakhi left the city. However, cops arrived at the scene and refused to let her perform. There were about 800 invites. Other performers included Vasundhara Das and Telugu film actresses Sangeetha and Tanu Rai.

Rakhi Sawant on Sunday failed to get permission from Hyderabad police to perform in a private function of a real estate company here. While other performers were allowed to perform, Rakhi was not allowed to do so as the police said the organisers did not take permission for Rakhi Sawant in particular.

A police inspector, Srinivas said, ‘’We have given permission to this programme with certain conditions…and the organisers have to adhere to it.'’ The organisers are crying foul at the police attitude stating that it is a private show and more so a family type of show wherein every caution was being adhered with regards to decency of performers.

Kiron, organiser of the programme said,” We had given written undertaking that there will be no obscenity. It is a decent programme and it is only for our invitees and it is not a public function.'’
